Nanjing, Aug 29, 2007 -- Siemens Automation and Drives Group (A&D) today held an inauguration ceremony for the completed Phase III Extension of Siemens Numerical Control Ltd., Nanjing (SNC) and celebration ceremony for SNC's ten-year anniversary. Visiting German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her German delegation, Siemens's newly on-board global President and CEO Peter Loescher, and officials from Jiangsu Provincial Government and Nanjing Municipal Government, attended the ceremony.

With an investment of more than 328 million RMB, the extension will enable SNC to triple its production capacity and double its research and development (R&D) force within three years. The extension paves the way for SNC's becoming the manufacturing and R&D centre for electrical and electronics products of Siemens Automation and Drives Group in China. The move is taken as Siemens A&D aims to secure its leading market position in China's industrial automation market, by constantly offering innovative products and systems tailored to local needs.

Mr. Peter Loescher, who already made his first trip to China last week as new global President and CEO of Siemens, said, "SNC has made remarkable achievement during the past decade, becoming one of Siemens' largest manufacturing bases outside Europe for industrial automation. It is, however, one of the many examples illustrating our long-term commitment to the China market. In the future, we will continue to expand our business in Jiangsu Province and in China." SNC aims to become the manufacturing and R&D centre for electrical and electronic products of Siemens A&D in China.

With the Phase III Extension, SNC will expand its built-up area from the current 8,200 square meters to nearly 21,000 square meters and triple its production capacity. Meanwhile, SNC will double the number of its R&D engineers within three years and conduct more technological transfer and training to fortify its R&D competence. As part of the Phase III Extension, a test centre and a technology center for machine tool business are also set up, working together with SNC's R&D Division.
